2013 - Napa Valley
Z. Alexander Brown Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon opens with rich aromas of black cherry, cocoa and allspice. Velvety tannins support layered, mouth-filling flavors of ripe blackberry, roasted coffee beans and hints of cinnamon. Smooth, balanced and complex, an elegant finesse defines the long and lingering finish.
In Napa Valley, 2013 delivered an ideal growing season. A warm, dry spring and early bud break was followed by a long summer with consistently moderate temperatures. Cooperative weather, healthy vines and even ripening jump-started one of the earliest harvests in recent history resulting in wines with great balance and complexity.
Throughout the growing season, winemaker John Killebrew visited each vineyard block regularly. The fruit for Z. Alexander Brown was harvested during the cool, early morning hours to ensure the concentrated flavors were captured at the peak of ripeness. Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes were de-stemmed, moved into stainless steel tanks and slowly warmed to fermentation temperatures. Following primary and malolactic fermentation, the wine was drained and gently pressed into French and American oak barrels to age and develop for 20 months. The final blend for this bold Cabernet was thoughtfully crafted as a result of multiple tastings and blending sessions featuring a selection of the best lots of the vintage.
